How I Work
My work is grounded in a relational and pluralistic approach. This means I believe therapy works best when built on trust, safety, and genuine human connection. Over many years of working with people in complex and vulnerable situations, I have learned that meaningful change often happens within a supportive relationship where you feel heard, respected, and understood.
A pluralistic approach means that therapy is flexible and collaborative. Rather than relying on one fixed method, I draw on a range of therapeutic ideas and work alongside you to find what feels most helpful. Together, we identify goals that feel meaningful and realistic, and we review these over time as your understanding grows.
I aim to create a calm and respectful space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at a pace that feels manageable. You remain at the centre of the process, guiding the direction of our work while being supported with empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness.
Many of the people I work with have experienced difficult or complex life experiences, including trauma, loss, identity challenges, or the lasting effects of childhood adversity. I recognise that these experiences can shape how people see themselves and relate to others. My role is to support you in making sense of these experiences and developing greater self-understanding, resilience, and confidence.
Where appropriate, I may draw on approaches such as inner child work, reflective exercises, or practical tools to support emotional understanding and healing. These are always introduced collaboratively and at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Above all, I believe therapy should feel like a place where you are accepted as you are — a space where difference is respected, identity is affirmed, and change can happen gradually and safely.
How we move forward
Recognising that you have already taken the first courageous step in your healing journey, the next step is to have an initial consultation. I am aware that the first steps in reaching out for counselling can be a daunting task, but I aim to make the experience as comfortable as possible. You can email me with your contact number, and we can arrange a time that suits you for me to call you.
I offer a free, no-obligation, 30-minute online session.
This first step can help you feel comfortable and create a space for our introduction to each other. You can then provide an outline of the issue for which you are seeking support. Finding a therapist who is right for you may take several attempts. If, after our initial consultation, you feel that you may prefer a different therapist, I would be pleased to direct you to a more specialised service or a more suitable private practitioner.
This is what you can expect.
The initial consultation:
Our first session involves understanding your concerns, establishing goals, and creating a tailored therapy plan. It's a space for you to ask questions and get comfortable with the therapy process.
Therapeutic Journey:
Each session is a step toward personal growth and self-discovery. You can expect a supportive and confidential environment where you explore your thoughts and feelings.
